How to fold or roll up a Macpac jacket?

Down jackets can take up a lot of space if not folded or rolled up properly. The directions below will show you ways to fold your jacket so that it is not bulky as you store it or travel with it.

Folding Macpac jackets for storage:

  1. Lay the jacket flat.
  2. Fold the sleeves across in a parallel line.
  3. Fold the bottom of the jacket halfway, then to just before the hood, covering the sleeves.
  4. By now, you should have a rectangle shape, fold the sides towards the center.
  5. Stuff the folded part into the hood, making a compact ball for easy storage.

Folding Macpac jackets for luggage:

  1. Lay the jacket flat.
  2. Place a bend on the shoulders of the jacket and fold the arms along the outer edge of the jacket sides.
  3. Fold the arms over by themselves and make sure the folds meet towards the center.
  4. Fold the hood down the gap created by the shoulders.
  5. Fold the entire jacket vertically in half with the zipper as the centerline.
  6. Roll the jacket from top to bottom, starting at the hood. Make sure to roll tightly, so the jacket compresses.
  7. Secure the rolled jacket with a velcro strap, rubber band, etc, to keep it from rolling out in your luggage as you travel or stuff it into the storage bag that comes with the jacket.

How to repair a Macpac jacket?

Macpac jackets are designed for long wear, meaning they are durable.

However, if your jacket gets damaged, Macpac offers repairs for a reasonable fee. You can contact their Repairs team and get it looked at.

The Macpac repairs and warranty page also offers detailed information on circumstances where your jacket is eligible for warranty. However, you can still do repairs on the jacket yourself in these situations:

The zip slider doesn’t work anymore

When the zipper keeps splitting when you zip it up, check the zip slider.

  1. Use a pair of pliers to gently squeeze the slider opening where the teeth go through.
  2. Apply minimal pressure and check periodically if the zipper slides up correctly.

The zipper has broken teeth

There may be instances where the zipper teeth break while you’re on a trip. If this happens, check how damaged the zipper is.

If the slider can still close the zipper, minimize use until you can take it to be repaired. Another option is to close it as far as it can go then sew the area just before the zipper teeth are broken. This prevents further damage to the fabric.

There is a hole or tear in the jacket

Stitch the area with a patch larger than the hole or put duct tape over the area until you can take the jacket for repairs.

How to wash a Macpac jacket?

A Macpac jacket should ideally be hand-washed, or a gentle cycle in the machine wash with cold water and a mesh bag. It should never be dry cleaned. Do not use fabric softeners or bleach.

Before washing your jacket, please make sure that:

  1. All zippers and fasteners are closed.
  2. You are using a specialized non-detergent soap for washing.

After washing your jacket, line dries it in the shade away from sunlight.
