Are Caravan covers worth it?

This is one question you may likely ask if you are battling with the decision of whether to buy a cover for your caravan or not. Although some caravan covers are quite pricey, it is only natural for you to decide whether such a luxury is worth it or not. However, answering this question does not require knowledge of rocket science.

If you have a large enclosed space to store your caravan until you need it, you most likely do not need a caravan cover. However, if it will be left out in the open for the most part, then a caravan cover may be necessary if you can afford it.

So what are the pros and cons of having a caravan cover in the first place?

Pros of using a caravan cover

Here are the pros of using a caravan cover:

Weather Protection

A caravan cover will protect your tour Caravan from harsh weather elements like rain, UV sun rays, dirt, and even tree sap. In addition, if the caravan is made of high-quality materials, a cover will protect it from the weather at all times.

Anti-scratch protector

Most caravans are very rugged because they are made of tough materials; however, nothing can be as unpleasant as a caravan riddled with scratches and scrapes all over. A caravan cover is a great way to protect your caravan from body bruises. Should you decide to sell it in the future, you will still be able to get a good price.

Cons of using a caravan cover

Here are a few cons to using a cover for your caravan.

Installing and removal takes work

One common criticism of caravan covers is that they are incredibly difficult to take off and install. It requires a lot of pulling and tugging to get the shape right when installing the cover. Taking it off is yet another thankless task.

Maintenance

Another con is the need to maintain it once in a while, especially if your caravan lies in an area with extreme dust. Maintenance involves washing it to restore the color, which is not always easy to do.

Cause dampness

Covers are known to cause dampness, resulting in the growth of mildew and mould on caravans, which is an unpleasant sight to behold.  This is especially true if the cover is not a breathable fabric that allows dirt in. Furthermore, the caravan will become too hot, especially during summer when the heat level is high.

Main reasons why you should use a caravan cover

Before you decide on whether to buy a cover for your caravan or not, weigh the pros and the cons first, and on top of that, examine these reasons below as to why a cover may be necessary for your caravan.

You need a caravan cover if:

  • Your caravan remains unused for most parts of the year
  • You keep the caravan in an open space where it is exposed to the weather
  • The storage area is dusty
  • The caravan is made with fragile and/or weather-sensitive materials
  • The caravan is stored in an unsecured spot.
